Significant Term: Storage Desiccators Boxes

The moisture present in the atmosphere which is scientifically referred as humidity can spoil the chemical property, water can oxidize the chemicals and alter its size, colour and texture. Moreover, if a chemical gets exposed to water present in the air it can cause volatile reactions. Desiccators Box are of greater use in laborites and chemical factories or in factories where chemicals are used in larger quantities like in factories where pharmaceutical medicines are manufactured. If water gets combined with the pharmaceutical samples and chemical mixtures then it can degrade the medicinal properties of the medicine.

Now let’s discuss the different types of Desiccators and Dry Boxes. As mentioned earlier a desiccator is an airtight container designed specially to store chemicals to prevent them from reacting to the humidity present in the atmosphere. This is done with the use of suitable drying agents which have the property to soak moisture. The drying agents are placed in the bottom part of the desiccator. A desiccator is used to isolate chemicals from moisture as well as to cool heated objects.

Desiccators and Dry Boxes are available in different sizes from small single to large multi-chamber, vacuum and non-vacuum style, desiccant (silica gel) or inert gas purging types and are made of different materials like acrylic, PVC, Polycarbonate and stainless steel. They are also made of ESD safe material to protect electrostatic sensitive products and amber coloured material to block ultraviolet light.

Multi-Chamber Non-Vacuum Desiccator Cabinets

These desiccator cabinets can be used to nitrogen, argon and compressed dry purifying air to reduce oxidation and extend the shelf life of components which are moisture sensitive. They come in different size and shape with shelves and drawers as required. The cabinets can be made in clear & UV Amber Acrylic, Static Dissipative PVC and Polycarbonate which are clean room compatible. These dry boxes are ideal for many applications including microelectronic devices, semiconductor wafers, optical components, and biological Laboratory Glove Boxes & pharmaceutical applications.

Portable Desiccator Cabinets

These cabinets are usually made transparent with a single door so that they can be carried easily. These are available in clear and UV Amber acrylic, Clear PVC and Static-dissipative PVC materials. They are known to keep dust and moisture away and use inert gas to control humidity. Clear acrylic is ideal for general storage while amber is an ideal option as it provides UV protection. Whereas, transparent ESD PVC eliminates static charges and keep the dry box clean. Clear Non-dissipative PVC is a good option for storing corrosive chemicals.

Stainless Steel Desiccator Cabinets

Stainless Steel Desiccators (dry boxes) are very durable, basically designed to provide low humidity storage. They are not-vacuum dry cabinet's equipped with an optional inlet and outlet ports that allow gas to be removed from the storage area. They can be used with inert gas and CDA.

Vacuum Desiccator Cabinets

As the name suggests vacuum desiccator cabinets are made to store chemicals or stuff under vacuum condition, these are made of clear Acrylic for special vacuum testing, degassing, deforming, to store mixed liquids, biological tests and to also store samples under sustained condition. Vacuum desiccators are available in standard sizes and can be customized too.
