Various Kind Of Laboratory Glove Boxes

A glove box is basically a sealed container designed in a way to perform certain tasks by just placing hands inside the glove box. It is generally done to manipulate with objects under controlled atmospheric conditions. The glovebox is built in such a way that a pair of gloves are arranged in such a manner so that the user can place their hands into the gloves and perform tasks inside the box itself without the need of breaking the containment. Usually the whole glovebox or part of it is transparent to let the user see what he/ she is doing.

There are two types of Laboratory Glove Boxes, in the first type the user can work with hazardous substances for e.g. radioactive materials or infectious disease agents. While the second type allows manipulating with substances that are placed in highly purified and inert atmosphere, under argon or nitrogen gas. Glovebox can also be used to manipulate items in vacuum chambers.
Gloveboxes are usually made up of plastic. Laboratory glove boxes are typically designed to provide a controlled atmosphere which is particle free, oxygen free and low in humidity. Let's know the different types of GLOVE BOXES.

Isolation Glove Boxes

These are the basic laboratory glove boxes which are designed in a way which provide a clean, low-humidity and oxygen-free environment. These are used in labs, to assemble electronics and other critical operations in industries like semiconductor and pharmaceutical manufacturing. These gloveboxes are set up with positive pressure operations, meaning when they are utilized with automatic purge control units, they can preset the relative humidity or oxygen level using an inert gas such as Nitrogen. Gloveboxes can be made of four different materials: Acrylic, Static-Dissipative PVC (ESD safe), Non-dissipative PVC and chemical resistant Polypropylene.

Filtration Glove Boxes – Open Exhaust Containment

Containment gloveboxes are ideal for removing aerosols, fine pharmaceutical particles and most of the microbial containments. There is an exhausted look which set the ambient room atmosphere through a 99.97% (@ 0.3µm particles) HEPA filter. The Open Exhaust loop glove boxes contain a 480-CFM impeller blower unit, mounted in a Polypropylene housing. There is two HEPA Filters present, the first one allows safe handling and packaging of powdered hazardous materials. The second HEPA/ULPA Filter remove contaminants from the exhaust gas and draws chemical powders or other exhaust particles through a filter to make it safe for indoor release.

Filtration Glove Boxes – Closed-Loop Containment

Closed-loop containment Laminar Flow Hoods and glove box chambers are designed for recirculation. Air passes through a ULPA filter to continuously remove particles. Contaminants generated from internal applications are collected and removed with the flow of air. These glove boxes are pre-configured with the ULPA filter and pipes that direct the airflow. An isolated, brushless, electrically commutated DC motor has a clean, quiet and cool operation. These chambers are built in the lab- and cleanroom-compatible materials including acrylic, static-dissipative PVC, or polypropylene.
